Cassia seed is the ripe seed of the annual plant Cassia obtusifolia Linn. of the Leguminosae/Fabaceae family. Plant is native to the tropics. It grows wild in India. The seeds of Cassia Tora are rhombohedral and brown in colour, about 30 to 50 in number. The plant bears flowers in the rainy season and fruits in the winter. The crop matures by mid-November and local resident pick the seeds which is griped inside the shell. This shell is lightly hammered and seed is taken out. Seed Procurement starts from November end & continues till January end. Cassia leaves are widely used in the treatment of ulcers and skin related diseases.
